Assistant Recreation & Wilderness Program Leader, White Mountain National Forest

If you are interested in a place with year-round recreation, spectacular fall colors, the highest peak in the northeastern U.S., and a landscape rich with history, the White Mountain National Forest might be the place for you! The Forest will soon be filling a permanent, full-time GS-0401-11 Assistant Recreation & Wilderness Program Leader position located in the Supervisor’s Office*. While the target grade is a GS-11, the position may be advertised as a GS 9/11 depending on the outreach response.

DUTIES FOR THE POSITION: The position serves as the Forest Assistant Recreation & Wilderness Program Leader with duties in management support of large, complex, and diverse recreation programs. Primary responsibilities include oversight of the Forest’s recreation fee program, administration of the Forest-wide campground concession permit, oversight of the Outfitter/Guide program, and administration of the special-use permit for the high mountain hut system operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club, a major partner and cooperator. Additional duties include coordination of recreation event and facility special uses, coordination of recreation use monitoring efforts, and general support of dispersed and developed recreation and wilderness management.
