JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: WRV ALPINE RESTORATION CREW LEADER -JULY
Position Title: Alpine Trail/Restoration Crew Leader Job Announcement Date: April 27, 2011
Wildlands Restoration Volunteers seeks two skilled seasonal Trail/Restoration Crew Leaders for a 40 hrs/wk position from July 5th to July 29th. These two positions will lead a crew comprised of 10-12 members from Rocky Mountain Youth Corps. They will be responsible for helping manage and implement the final phases of construction on a rerouted trail and restoration of the existing trail to the Chicago Lakes overlook on Mt. Evans. This work includes but is not limited to: managing crews, helping with volunteer projects, staging rock material, building rock retaining walls, construction of new trail, construction of revegetated terraces, and restoration of the old trail. Due to the remote nature of the work site, camping will be required most nights during the week at a provided campsite; though other arrangements may be made in advance. A reliable vehicle is also a must.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
• Experience working with rock structures preferably in an alpine environment
• Physically fit and able/willing to perform work in adverse conditions
• Familiarity with moving and staging materials both manually and/or with machinery (skid steer)
• Experience operating small or large equipment not required, but will be an advantage
• Experience camping and working as part of a crew
• Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience highly preferred
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
Personal Qualities Desired:
Professional, self-motivated, team oriented, initiative, strong interpersonal skills, responsible, able to meet deadlines, detail oriented, and interest in public land stewardship, volunteerism and service.
Wages and Term: $12.50-14.50/hr depending on experience. This is a 40 hr/week seasonal position. The position may require working a flexible schedule including some weekends.

ABOUT THE SUMMIT LAKE PROJECT
Summit Lake Park is situated at approximately 12,800 feet above sea level, about 60 miles west of the Denver-metro area. Part of this park, the Summit Lake & Chicago Lakes Overlook Trail provides connections to both the Chicago Lakes Basin and the eastern route up Mount Evans. The project will reroute this trial to make it more accessible, providing recreation access to a dramatic tundra environment for visitors who otherwise would not be able to experience this ecosystem. The project plan is guided by the Code of Federal Regulations, and the U.S. Forest Service Outdoor Recreation Accessibility Guidelines and the Forest Service Trail Accessibility Guidelines. To achieve this goal in will require integrating a professional trail crew with large volunteer projects.
