Job Description: Greater DC Cares is looking for a driven and professional individual to work with our partner services team in organizing training events that convene representatives from the nonprofit sector, as well as professional skilled volunteers, to grow the capacity of nonprofits in the greater DC area. The intern will support two core programs: Board Leadership and Mentoring Matters. These are two exciting, rapidly expanding programs with plenty of room to develop, so the internship offers a unique opportunity to help grow an established program and provide research and recommendations to increase the positive impact these programs have on the area’s nonprofit sector.
The Board Leadership Program, which offers professionals two days of training on effective board leadership and then matches them with a nonprofit organization searching for a highly qualified board member. There is one Board Leadership Training that will take place during the course of the internship: March 7th & 9th. The intern will assist in all event planning, material preparation, recruitment and invitations, and additional logistics.
The Mentoring Matters Breakfast Series convenes nonprofit representatives working in the area of mentoring in DC, to give them an opportunity for professional development in areas that will further their goals, and to give them an opportunity to share best practices and work collaboratively on challenges they face. There are two Mentoring Matters Breakfast events during the course of the internship: February 3rd and March 31st. The intern will assist in all event planning, material preparation, recruitment and invitations, and additional logistics.
Both of these training series present an opportunity to create an advanced curriculum for continued training and education in these areas. The intern will research best practices in board leadership and mentoring, and develop an advanced training for each that will benefit the audience of each program.
The Partner Services Intern is responsible for:
· Event planning and logistics, including site visits to event locations
· Research to update materials for each training and create a standard training packet
· Training and curriculum development
· Participation in organization-wide volunteer days, including mlk day of service
· Networking with dc area nonprofit organization to determine their needs
· General support to the partner services team as needed
· Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
· An interest in and dedication to the DC nonprofit sector
· Ability to meet deadlines and work as part of a team
· Holds a college degree, or working toward an expected degree in 2011 or 2012
· Previous internships or experience in the nonprofit sector
· Experience working in an office, using Microsoft programs on PCs (specifically, Outlook, Powerpoint, Word, Excel, mail merges; Salesforce or other customer relations database experience preferred)
