Hyde Park Green Team Teens Tackle Sherrin Woods

A group of a dozen local teenagers recently celebrated their graduation from a unique summer program after spending six weeks working as a “Green Team” tasked with maintaining and improving the Sherrin Woods Urban Wild in Hyde Park.

Overseen by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s Urban Wilds Initiative (UWI) in partnership with the Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation (SWBCDC), the summer jobs were funded by Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s Boston Youth Fund. The Green Team’s duties included maintaining trails, removing trash and debris, clearing invasive plant growth, and engaging in community outreach encouraging residents to take advantage of the natural features of the site.

The Sherrin Woods team was made up of Hyde Park teens Eric Andujar, Andrew Bannon, Tom Bell, Darryl Berry, Alex Curry, Vinny Daddieco, Steff Merizier, Sam Sena-Nova, Xavier Phillips, Wilders Pierre, Tiara Smith-Matthews, and Xavier Valdez.
