Native Plants Bio Tech

Midewin is 45 miles south of downtown Chicago, but surrounding communities are small farm towns. There is no public transportation in or to Midewin; however, trains to Chicago are available from Joliet, 20 miles away.

As a part of the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie Public Services Team, the position would work along side the team’s Lead Native Plants Bio Tech. Duties would include the following:

  • Maintenance & expansion of native prairie plots at administrative sites
  • Invasive control along recreation trails and at recreation sites
  • Assisting and coordinating volunteer work days

This position will work closely with the Public Services team and may be asked to assist with special projects, such as event preparation and group programs. The position will also work closely with the other Midewin Recreation Crews. Prior knowledge of native prairie plants and ecosystems will be useful, however the selected applicant will have the opportunity to learn from the Lead Native Plants Bio Tech.  Interested applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be prepared to work outdoors under variuos conditions.
