Native Plant Propagation Intern
North Cascades National Park is a geological wonder located at the very northern end of the Cascade Range bordering British Columbia. The Park exhibits the most vertical extremes of any Park in the lower 48 states. There are over 300 glaciers, 230 lakes, innumerable waterfalls, and 360 miles of trail in 684,000 acres. Wilderness is the dominate characteristic with over 93% of the Park designated as such. It is a land of steep vertical valleys, jagged mountain tops, wet and lush western slopes and dry eastern slopes. Plant and wildlife are abundant and varied. This position will be located at the native plant nursery in the Marblemount Ranger Station and will work at various locations throughout the park.
Assist with a park-wide revegetation program with a focus on the nursery production of native plants, the collection of seeds and cuttings, plant care including watering, fertilizing, transplanting and out planting, weeding, data collection and entry. These activities will occur primarily in the front country but will require extended back packing (3-5 days) trips. Work will also require involvement with youth and volunteers during many activities; assisting with facility maintenance and assisting other Park Service Divisions.
