Meadow Rover Program Manager

Located just two and a half hours southeast of Seattle, Mount Rainier's glacier-covered volcanic cone is the icon of the Pacific Northwest. Nearly two million people come to enjoy the grandeur and wild beauty of the park each year. Hundreds of miles of trails through subalpine meadows and lowland forests are accessible during the summer months.

Goal:  Meadow Rovers improve protection of the meadows, wildlife and visitors at Paradise through visitor education, trail observation and assisting the various divisions at Paradise. • Schedule Meadow Rovers and maintain Meadow Rover calendar.
  • Schedule temporary housing for volunteers
  • Coordinate Meadow Rover tasks with the multiple divisions at Paradise and Sunrise (Examples: Interpretation, Law Enforcement – parking, pets, etc; Natural Resources – scout for invasive, Wildlife Habituation; Trails – sign social trails; and shuttle operations).
  • Stock supplies and tools and acquire new equipment as needed.
  • Update trail report webpage.
  • Assist with Interpretive trainings.
  • Complete paperwork relating to VIP hours and visitor stats.
  • Assist with other volunteer program activities and projects as needed.

Perform Meadow Rover duties:

  • Actively promote understanding of and compliance with NPS regulations regarding use of the meadows (stay on trails, no flower picking, no pets on trails, no littering, etc.) Provide visitors with positive resource education messages.
  • Provide information to visitors on a wide range of topics, including trails, flowers, wildlife, climbing, etc.
  • Provide additional roving interpretation as needed at viewpoints, lower elevation trails, or on the public shuttle bus.
