Yosemite Valley and Little Yosemite Valley
As the LYV Back Country Ranger Intern, you will assist Rangers with day to day operations in Little Yosemite Valley. The mission of the intern is three fold: to prevent Search and Rescue incidents through visitor education, to protect the public, and to protect park resources. The preventative search and rescue portion consists of talking to hikers about their skill level and known hazards in an attempt to prevent mishaps. You will respond to a variety of emergency incidents, report what you find, and assist with search and rescue operations (SAR). You will also assist with wildlife management by monitoring bear activity, and assisting visitors with proper food storage. In addition, you'll also assist rangers with a variety of park operations and projects. This is a great opportunity for anyone considering a career with the NPS, in Emergency Medicine, Search and Rescue, or Wildlife Management. A good attitude and willingness to work hard may substitute for experience but candidates with proven outdoor skills, EMT certification, and a high level of physical fitness will be favored. This position is funded through the National Park Service Youth Program Initiative; therefore, applicants must be between 18 and 25 years of age, with applicants over 21 preferred.
