Duty station would be primarily at the Pacific Ranger District in Pollock Pines. Access to grocery shopping, post office and other needs is within 5 miles of the station. Some activities may require overnight stays at more remote locations.
Intern would primarily be working on outreach and education for Desolation Wilderness. Intern would work on updating the Desolation Wilderness Education Plan in support of the 10-Year Wilderness Stewardship Challenge. Desolation Wilderness has a very active volunteer program and the intern would coordinate update of our Trailhead Naturalist displays for use by our volunteers. The intern would also plan and implement natural resources outreach and education programs at local businesses, community groups, and recreation sites, including the Wrights Lake Amphitheater. We are looking for an outgoing individual with artistic skill to take existing conceptual designs to a completed project. Desolation Wilderness is located in the central Sierra Nevada range on the west slope of Lake Tahoe. Desolation covers nearly 64,000 acres on the Eldorado National Forest and the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and is one of the most heavily visited wilderness areas for its size. The Pacific Crest Trail traverses Desolation for 17 miles from Echo Lakes in the south to Richardson Lake in the north.
