The Clear Creek Ranger District of Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland is located in the foothills community of Idaho Springs, Colorado (7,500 feet). Idaho Springs is a small town along the I-70 corridor that has all the basic services one would need and is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Rocky Mt. National Park, 45 minutes from Boulder and 35 minutes from Denver. Year-round recreation abounds, including two ski areas, two wilderness areas, two Scenic Byways, eight campgrounds and the Mount Evans Recreation Area. The Mount Evans road makes it possible for people of all physical abilities to access numerous recreational opportunities within a high alpine environment. To access the 14,264 foot summit of Mount Evans, visitors travel along the highest road in North America. Each summer over 100,000 people enjoy a variety of activities such as: site seeing, wildlife and wildflower viewing, nature photography, hunting and fishing, hiking, biking and attending interpretive programs. The areas attractions include Mountain goats, bighorn sheep, bristlecone pine and scenic vistas of the Rockies.
You will meet and greet visitors, answer questions and assist with visitor safety (40%), develop and deliver thematic interpretive programs on various natural and cultural history topics related to the Mount Evans area (30%), and perform daily routine tasks which include driving to interpretive sites, completing safety checks, inspecting interpretive sites for resource or display damage, logging visitor contacts and picking up litter (15%). You will also open, close and maintain the Dos Chappell Nature Center (10%), and provide information at the district's visitor center front desk (5%). EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Opportunity to work with the district to choose an independent project that would mutually benefit you and the agency. Plus, you'll also have the opportunity to learn about various jobs in the forest service.
