Interpretation Intern

You will help visitors make their visit to this incredible park a memorable one by helping them make connections with the park and its resources.  Your responsibilities will include staffing one of the park's visitor center information desks; answering visitor questions and assiting with trip planning; assisting with sales of cooperating association books and other items; and issuing backcountry use permits(40%). In addition, you will research, prepare and present interpretive talks, guided walks and evening programs (40%). You will also work on special projects and assignments that will provide you with exposure to other phases of park work (10%), and you will conduct informal visitor contacts on park roads, trails and at overlooks (10%).Required Skills: Valid driver`s license; ability and willingness to submit to a required criminal history background check; interest in working with all members of the public on a daily basis.Desired Skills: Ability to communcate effectively orally and in writing; ability to accurately complete cash and credit card transactions; ability and willingness to work as part of a team; ability and willingness to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds; ability to quickly learn about the natural and cultural resources of the park.This position is not eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award.
