Interpretation and Education Intern
Shenandoah National Park lies along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in north central Virginia. The park consists of more than 197,000 acres of mountains, forests, meadows, and streams. The park protects and preserves the natural scenery and cultural heritage of this section of the Blue Ridge. The major access route through the park is the 105-mile long Skyline Drive which provides opportunities for outstanding views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Piedmont from the Drive’s numerous overlooks.
The intern will prepare and present thematic interpretive programs including guided walks and hikes, formal talks, illustrated evening campfire programs, and children’s programs based on the interpretive themes of Shenandoah National Park (70%).Provide information, orientation, and quality customer services through informal interpretive contacts while staffing visitor centers and performing roving interpretive patrols (20%).Additional duties may include care and feeding of live birds of prey, assisting with care and maintenance of interpretive exhibits and historic resources, and cross-training opportunities relating to natural and cultural resource management (10%).
