i-Tree Eco Inventory Intern

This is an urban forestry inventory project using state-of-the-art protocol for calculating ecosystem services of trees in urban settings.Interns will work as a team (of 6) and in crews of two to inventory i-Tree Eco plots in the City of Atlanta.  Inventory training will be provided at the beginning of the project and QA/QC will be conducted by the USDA Forest Service (Athens, Georgia) thorughout the project.Tree inventory duties includes:

  • make contact with property owner to gain access to the plot location
  • locate plot center
  • for trees >= 2"
    • identify species
    • measure diameter
    • measure heights of crown (multiple)
    • measure crown width
    • record other condiiton related attributes
  • transfer data to laptop computer each day

The following equipment will be provided for the project including:

  • diameter tape
  • laser range finder
  • GPS data collectors (Nomad w/ SOLOforest software)
  • laptop computers
  • GIS software (QGIS)
  • hardhats and safety vests
