Rock Creek Park, in our nation's capital, offers visitors opportunities to soothe their spirits in the beauty of nature. This forested park has many stories to tell of its natural history and human history, past and present.
Rock Creek Park is seeking an intern for 16 weeks to spearhead the Healthy Parks Health People program for the park. Healthy Parks Healthy People is a National Park Service initiative to encourage visitors to participate in health releated activities and public stewardship in national parks.The intern will conduct an assessment of Rock Creek Park in order to develop and implement a Healthy Parks Healthy People Plan. Work will include coordinating and conducting focus groups, individual interviews with park staff, park partners and other stakeholders, and observe visitors recreating. Some tasks will include collaboration with and site visits to other National Parks in the Washington, DC region. The intern will recommend a suite of programs designed for different audiences, including park staff, make recommendations for future implimentation, promotional materials, and to fully develop at least three Healthy Park Healthy People programs.Candidates must be self-starters, able to work independently, should either be enrolled in a masters program or already have a degree in Public Health or related field. Experience in qualitative analysis, program evalution and implementation is preferred. Housing is not available. We are seeking an individual from with in the local commuting area.
