My grandparents pose in a meadow of wildflowers with Mount Rainier rising in the background. In the photograph they’re young, standing next to a small reflecting pool that no longer exists. My grandfather, a maintenance man in Mount Rainier National Park, looks proud. My grandmother, daughter of the parks’ campground hosts, is smiling and holding a specially-exempted bouquet of wildflowers (picking flowers in the park was illegal even in those days.) It is their wedding day.

It was a beautiful, blustery March morning when a group of SCA alumni and Conservation Leadership Corps students visited Environmental Studies on the Piedmont (E.S.), an environmental research and education station in Warrenton, Virginia, just an hour outside of Washington, DC.

Successful Year for First Alumni Council Print

As SCA approached its 50th Anniversary last spring, it launched its first Alumni Council. The members were interested in being conservation leaders in their own communities, reengaging SCA’s other alumni, and expanding the impact of young people on conservation.
