Do you find yourself longing for those SCA days gone by? Then it’s time to reunite and get those hands dirty once again! What better place than Mount Rainier National Park, home for the second year in a row to SCA high school crews, conservation interns and the Recovery Corps?
Please join us for a 5-day, 3-stringer bridge replacement project on the Kautz Creek Trail. The project site is a 3-mile hike in from the trailhead, where native materials are plentiful, to replace the badly damaged existing bridge. [Our back-up project is to construct from scratch a different bridge on a new section of the Wonderland Trail, which will definitely be snow-free by then and is a much shorter hike each day.] This is a gorgeous location set in giant trees. All alumni are welcome to pitch their tents in the Longmire Campground -- a 10-minute drive up the road and home to the Corps -- and to join us for meals (thanks to a grant from the Alumni office, but donations are certainly welcome to help offset costs). Register here.
Due to project logistics, space is limited to 10 or so alumni. We are looking for folks who can come for the week, but will be open to partial-week volunteers if we’re unable to fill our spots. Our project will run July 22 - 26 (Tuesday - Saturday), with an optional early end date of the 25th if you’d like to join in on our Wilderness First Aid course for volunteers on the 26th and 27th (cost is $50 or $60 if you’d also like CPR certification the night of the 26th -- meals are included). Please see our event list to register separately for this opportunity. [And, while you’re at it, feel free to sign up for another volunteer event or two...]
We hope you’ll join the SCA team on the mountain!
