Save Trees by Cutting Down on Catalogs

To reduce the number of catalogs that pile up in peoples mailboxes, three environmental groups have joined forces to operate a website that allows people to remove themselves from any of more than 1,000 mailing lists.

The site — CatalogChoice.org — collects names and then contacts the catalog companies to remove names and addresses from their mailing lists. The service is provided at no cost to the consumer.

A sponsored project of the Ecology Center, the site is endorsed by the National Wildlife Federation and the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Since it opened for business in October, the charities say they have helped more than 300,000 people opt out of receiving nearly 3.8 million catalogs.
