SCA

by Brittany Williams, ’07
Brittany Williams, a crew member at the Jacksonville, FL, Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, gave an inspired reading of her poem at the crew’s recent graduation ceremony.

This poem was originally an entry in the weekly journal that each crew member was asked to keep during their month-long service. Their work included building boardwalks and restoring wildlife habitats destroyed by hurricane damage.

SCA

SCA stands for
Student
Conservation
Association.
A lot of people down here in
Jacksonville, Florida never
Even heard of SCA.
Well, let me tell you something.
Once you hear about it you
Will want to come join the fun.
SCA can be stressful.
SCA can be challenging.
But in the end, all your hard
Work has paid off.
You learn about your own city.
SCA, I can say, has changed
The way I look at things.
Now I can be aware of all my surroundings.
Your leaders are cool.
You meet the sponsors, and
Want to meet them again soon.
Just think of it this way,
You want something to do next summer,
SCA is the one.
You will have a lot of fun.
Are you ready to join the SCA and have a great summer?
