Principle duties are:
- Assist in habitat management including pest plant control, prescribed burning, mechanical treatment of woody vegetation, and vegetation monitoring
- Conduct visual and radio-telemetric surveys of endangered Mississippi sandhill cranes
- Collect crane behavioral data from fixed and portable blinds
- Maintain accurate and detailed field records. Enter data promptly into computer databases
- Maintain assigned equipment including vehicles, optics, telemetry, trapping, etc
Other duties include:
- Assist in conducting extensive crane ground and air nest surveys.
- Assist in conducting other wildlife surveys such as Calling Frog Survey; Secretive Marshbird Survey, and Roadside Raptor Survey.
- Assist in predator management program.
- Assist in refuge public outreach including visitor contact, environmental education.
- Assist in organizing and analyzing biological data
- Other duties as assigned
