Principle duties are:

  • Assist in habitat management including pest plant control, prescribed burning, mechanical treatment of woody vegetation, and vegetation monitoring
  • Conduct visual and radio-telemetric surveys of endangered Mississippi sandhill cranes
  • Collect crane behavioral data from fixed and portable blinds
  • Maintain accurate and detailed field records.  Enter data promptly into computer databases
  • Maintain assigned equipment including vehicles, optics, telemetry, trapping, etc

Other duties include:

  • Assist in conducting extensive crane ground and air nest surveys.
  • Assist in conducting other wildlife surveys such as Calling Frog Survey; Secretive Marshbird Survey, and Roadside Raptor Survey.
  • Assist in predator management program. 
  • Assist in refuge public outreach including visitor contact, environmental education.
  • Assist in organizing and analyzing biological data
  • Other duties as assigned
