Located in southwestern Louisiana, on the Gulf coast next to Texas, Cameron Prairie, Lacassine, and Sabine refuges comprise 184,000 acres of fresh and salt marshes, coastal prairie, bottomland hardwoods, and managed agricultural areas. Managed to preserve and protect wintering waterfowl and their habitats, these wetlands are also home to many year round bird species as well as numerous species of wildlife and fish.

Our interns are involved in all aspects of refuge management and are treated as an integral part of the staff during their stay.  Following is a position description for a potential intern:
Your duties will support refuge programs including: biological (data collection, invasive species management, dove banding, plant and animal identification, game camera operations, trap building), recreational (fishing, hunting, interpretation, wildlife observation, photography), visitor services (greet and orient visitors, outreach events, volunteer support),  refuge operations (visitor center, field logistics), facility maintenance (mowing, weed eating, litter pick up, public restrooms, visitor center/offices) and administration (data recording, computer entry, summary reports).  Additionally you will serve as the resident bunkhouse monitor, ensuring bunkhouse residents keep shared areas clean, and reporting any problems or maintenance issues to the supervisor.
