Hometown: Tallahassee, FL
SCA Work/Site Location: Olympic National Park
Dream job: Anything that takes me out of doors to beautiful places
Favorite book: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
Favorite movie: Lots!
Favorite park: As of this summer, Olympic
Most memorable SCA moment: Being honored as the SCA's 50,000th Volunteer at Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Background: Born and raised in North Florida. My parents taught me to love the outdoors by taking my sister and me to the beach every weekend when we were younger. I have worked with 3 SCA conservation crews throughout high school, and I plan on attending Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio in the fall of 2009. I hope to continue working with the SCA and I cannot wait until I am old enough to start leading my own crews!
Here you will find Pacific Ocean beaches, rain forest valleys, glacier-capped peaks and a stunning variety of plants and animals. Roads provide access to the outer edges of the park, but the heart of Olympic is wilderness; a primeval sanctuary for humans and wild creatures alike.
Sarah gives a tour of camp, the work site, bread making and reflections on 23 days in the back country.
After completing the new trail, the crew goes on a hike to enjoy their stunning surroundings.
