Fire Effects Monitoring Intern

Categories:

Marblemount, WA is the duty station. It is a remote and tiny town located in the heart of the North Cascades - teaming with glaciers, mountains, backcountry trails and beautiful vistas. The nearest grocery store is 20 miles away in Concrete, WA.

As a member of the North Cascades fire effects monitoring crew, you will learn and use standard protocols to monitor the effects of prescribed fire on plants and fuels. In addition to reading plots that burned in prescribed burns at several national parks, you may also assist the fire ecologist with fire ecology research. On your free time, you are encouraged to enjoy the breath-taking mountain trails of North Cascades National Park, the lush forests of Olympic and Mount Rainier National Park, and the scenic San Juan Islands. There are endless opportunities to go whale watching, river rafting, and mountain climbing as well.
