MLK Day of Service in Pittsburgh, PA

Join us as we team up with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day through service and recreation at Schenley Park Skating Rink in Pittsburgh.

Volunteers are invited to attend a morning service project to remove invasive species and create seed packets for the Audubon Society of Western PA, and stay for an afternoon of ice skating and other recreational activities. Bring family and friends to join in!

MLK Day of Service in Washington, DC

Join us as we team up with National Capital Parks East and AmeriCorps to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day through service at Anacostia Park in Washington, DC.

Located near MLK Jr. Ave in Southeast DC, Anacostia Park is one the region’s largest recreational areas as well as an important natural resource. Encompassing over 1200 acres, the park acts as an urban flood plain and wildlife habitat as well as providing numerous recreation opportunities for the public. 

SCA Volunteers for the Holidays at the National Tree in Washington, DC

The National Park Service at Presidents Park along with the National Parks Foundation has asked for SCA’s help this holiday season during their month-long holiday celebration. This year SCA has been asked to assist park rangers at Santa’s Workshop! No elf outfits required… Tasks include helping assist NPS rangers with greeting the public, answering questions, and being a general welcome wagon to the thousands of families who come to see Santa each year!

ConSERVE NYC: MLK Day at East River Park, Manhattan

Join the Student Conservation Association as we team up with NYC Parks and AmeriCorps to celebrate MLK Day through service at East River Park in Manhattan.

East River Park encompasses 57 acres of waterfront on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. During Hurricane Sandy, the park was inundated with over six feet of storm surge. Beyond the immediate damages, the storm left a lasting impact in the form of salt contamination.

ConSERVE NYC: Beach Cleanup at Jacob Riis Park, Queens

Join SCA as we team up with Gateway National Recreation Area for our December ConSERVE NYC project at Jacob Riis Park!

Situated in the Rockaways, Jacob Riis is known as the “People’s Beach” of New York City. The historic beachfront provides recreational space for thousands of residents every year, and important coastal habitat for water birds and other wildlife.
