The selected applicants will work with the Hudson River Park Trust’s Environment and Education (E&E) staff towards achieving the Trust’s mission of protecting and managing the Hudson River Estuarine Sanctuary and improving awareness and understanding of the Hudson River through education and outreach.The members’ time will be spent on a combination of environmental education and stewardship responsibilities. The Hudson River Park provides quality hands-on environmental education experiences to thousands of school groups (k – Grade 12), summer campers (toddlers – Grade 12), and park patrons.  The members will largely support the coordination and implementation of our robust environmental education programming as well as help mentor 3-month SCA members during the summer season. The E&E department also hosts science outreach events for local families and students that the member will help plan and manage. In addition, stewardship responsibilities will include monitoring oyster cages, eel mops, caught fish, and breeding birds throughout the park, caring for collected specimens, horticulture activities, park beautification, volunteer events, and water quality testing. The members will also be encouraged to discuss individual interests with their supervisor and if feasible, the member can design a research/monitoring project to be accomplished by the member over the course of the term.
Applicants must be very comfortable speaking in public, friendly, flexible, team-work oriented, and have a strong passion for teaching about the environment to diverse audiences. This position is manual labor intensive and requires someone who is willing and able to lift up to 50lbs and work outdoors and weekends (40hrs/week) in all types of weather conditions. Catch and release fishing is a key component to our education programming and applicants should also be comfortable handling fish and bait. 
This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in urban environmental education and outreach.  The members will get exposure to many of NYC’s environmental organizations and build extensive experience in teaching diverse audiences about NYC’s natural resources.
