Southern Colorado, including the Pike San Isabel, San Juan and Rio Grande National Forests
This position primarily includes public lands managment oversight and monitoring on Forest Service and BLM lands across southern Colorado. It is open to local candidates only. This includes residents near or in the southwest portion of Colorado.95% of time will be spent in the field monitoring and assessing riparian and upland conditions using agency standard methodologies such as Multiple Indicators Monitoring (MIM), Proper Functioning Condition (PFC), and Upland Indicators.Applicant should be a self starter with knowledge of ecosystem processes in the arid western US. Knowledge of hydrology, water quality, vegetation, soils and their interactions is needed.The successful applicant will be required to use his/her personal vehicle to travel extensively throughout the southwest portion of Colorado. All miles will be reimbursed at about 50 cents/mile and a per diem of about $20/day will be provided when in travel status. Work will be in fairly remote locations that requires nightly camping during the work week. Comfort with camping out is a must.GIS/GPS skills are also needed.
