Southwest Airlines' Share the Spirit program embodies the culture of positive impact in the communities it serves – demonstrated through Southwest's charitable giving, Employee volunteerism, and community relations pro grams. As the official airline of SCA, Southwest Employees joined student volunteers at SCA's 2010 Earth Day service projects across the United States. "Southwest Airlines is a citizen of this planet and with that citizenship, it is our responsibility to set an example and support Environmental Stewardship now and plant the seed for future generations," said Linda Rutherford, Southwest Airlines Vice President of Communication and Strategic Outreach. "We share the Student Conservation Association’s vision of preparing future leaders for the responsibilities of citizenship to their communities and to our planet."

In celebration of its 40th Anniversary, Southwest Airlines teamed up with SCA for the Conservation in Action Tour—an initiative that took our commitment to volunteerism and our passion for conservation on the road, literally! An SCA crew of seven young people traveled from coast to coast in a custom-designed biodiesel RV, and with the aid of Southwest employees and others, conducted 40 conservation service projects in national, state and city parks from Dallas to Detroit and Los Angeles to DC.

“This is the perfect way to celebrate our 40th anniversary,” said Southwest Airlines Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO Gary Kelly. “Volunteering and giving back is something that our people do year round. It’s our way of saying thank you to the communities that have given so much to us!”
