NBC Universal is one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience. In keeping with their vision to raise Green awareness, effect positive change to the environment, and educate the public through green-themed initiatives, the NBC Universal Foundation (in connection with NBC Universal's Green initiative, Green is Universal) generously supports SCA and its mission.
In 2009, NBC Universal sponsored the national "Green Your School" contest, which awarded cash to the three high schools for submitting their best "green-related" project. Project examples included reducing a school's carbon footprint with a green roof, implementing a recycling or compost program in a school cafeteria, using reusable and recyclable products on campus, and establishing a system to reduce water and power usage.
"At a time when environmental awareness and understanding is critical, NBC Universal is proud to show our continued commitment to support green initiatives and educate the next generation in meaningful ways," said Susan Haspel, Vice President, Corporate Community Affairs, NBC Universal. "Young people want to know where and when they can make the greatest environmental difference and this contest motivates them to take action."
