The Angeles National Forest is a treasured landscape enjoyed by three and half million people each year. In response to the devastating Station Fires that rampaged through the San Gabriel Mountains and destroyed 160,000 acres, SCA teamed with The Home Depot Foundation to launch the Angeles Wildfire Recovery Project. Starting in the summer of 2010, a five-person Wildfire Recovery Corps, two youth conservation crews, and a college-age Conservation Intern will improve erosion control structures on trail treads, remove “micro-trash” exposed by fire, remove invasive plant species, rebuild trails and clear debris, rebuild picnic tables, participate in tree-planting efforts, and engage and recruit community volunteers to participate in recovery projects. In addition to supporting the ongoing recovery efforts, Home Depot employees from the San Fernando store will also participate in volunteer service days.
