- Recycle - Lorenzo Hardy
- During my four years of high school, there were many opportunities to do a plethora of sports and other activities, but one particular club really caught my interest, the Recycling Club. Every Wednesday afternoon, the Recycling Club would get together to pick up any recycling that teachers may have collected; and on the weekends we went around to highways and busy streets to collect any debris that may have plummeted out of cars. Recycling is a major part of my life and I believe that with a little more effort from the public, this world would be a better, cleaner place.
- Recycling Made Convenient - Gregory Gordon
- My practical solution is merely a new twist on an existing method of conservation. The problem is that recycling isn’t fulfilling its potential in a timely manner. I propose that we expand the reach of recycling and I have submitted a sketch of what we could implement to accomplish my proposal.
- Chinese Postman Problem for Municipal Solid Waste Collection - Karolina Filipiak
- I have worked on the project that uses Operations Research tools and specifically Chinese Postman Problem for Municipal Solid Waste Collection. Objective of the project was to design an optimal route for collection vehicles in a way that route lenght will be minimized. I believe that this idea not only has a potential for cost savings but also reduces the impact on the environment by trucks.
- Dominican Youth Conserving the Rhinoceros Iguana - Karie Karasiak
- Conserving the Rhinoceros Iguana will be promoted to youth in the Dominican Republic through environmental art projects and reading activities. Youth will be inspired to take leadership in the role of protecting the iguana as well as gain artistic and literary skills. The solution is an educational program led by the local environmental group, The Ecological Society, and sustained by the participation of community youth.
- Save the Ecosystem from Litter - Danielle Sage
- I want to stop people from littering, because all you see when driving on the roads is trash all along the grass and trash getting into animal habitats.
- Selective Hunting: A New Appraoach to Conservation - Allyson McCall
- Whitetail deer overpopulation is a serious problem for rural communities. Most of this problem is due to the exponentially greater number of does than bucks. In order to correct this problem, I propose that we place restrictions on the hunting of bucks and allow doe hunting to occur without the current limitations in order to get the imbalanced population under control.
- Green Camp - Lydia Leclair
- I propose an environmental summer camp that will inspire kids to be passionate about the world around them. The camp will foster new ideas and promote positive change. Let’s live in a green world!
- Blackwater Filtration via Electrolysis - Matthew Schmidtbauer
- The conventional method of treating sewage has several negative consequences relating directly to the environment. My idea is to treat blackwater with a new method involving electrolysis; which has three main byproducts: water, oxygen and fertilizer.
- Conservation & Cirriculum - Cashea Arrington
- With this project, I am hoping that conservation can be implemented into each grade with specifics on each level. There will be a yearly project in which each year leads up to something greener and more conservative. Outdoor classrooms will be added and must be observed. The grade levels will have lessons that start off basic such as recycling and the project is working with the school to create if not available, and maintain a program. Then by grade level the focus is increased in difficulty as well as the amount of concentration that is needed. From recycling to finishing up with a school wide audit and compensation project, I am hoping to get this project up and moving in the future.
- Environmental effects of former manufactured gas plants - Rebecca Greene
- By original photography, live and telephone interviews, emails, researching photo archives and requesting documents, I was able to recreate the history and show the past, present and future environmental effects of former manufactured gas plants along the East River of New York City beneath the ground, affecting soil, ground water and the river. I was able to coordinate and share information, to increase exchange of information between local and state environmental and government officials, with my resources of past and new photographs and data, and also increase public interest and awareness of this issue. I have presented this at school and in the community and I was awarded the first Environmentalist Youth Award by the Stuyvesant Cove Park Association and also first prize in Environmental Photography for my collection of photos of the present soil effects of the former manufactured gas plants and from my SCA experiences.
- Hazard! Fires - James Telles
- Create device to stop fires. Protect property that is threatened by fires. Control wild fires.
- Control Our Population! - Sota Sunleng
- Overpopulation sends a ripple that spread out to distort the whole world. We can help stop it by educating the masses, making materials like contraceptives available, and creating jobs for women. If we can make this happen, almost all other environmental problems may be able to fade away like a ripple is supposed to.
- What Can I do? - Amy Comer
- I wish to institute a program which involves college students going to every school in the United States, to teach about conservation and Global Climate Change. This will be during a National Earth Awareness Week (NEAW) which will also be instated. My purpose of this program is to give youth a hands on and fun way to learn about conservation and climate change, while learning ways to conserve at home.
- why recycle - Jenna Garguilo
- This powerpoint identifies what recycling is in all mediums and list a few benefits for each. It’s a collection of research on the importance of recycling and the affects of such activities. This was made for informing an audience with hope that education is the key to change.
- Walk Along the River - Sunanda Katragadda
- Walk Along the River is a summer camp focused on promoting river health. It involves firsthand research along the river and communication with the surrounding communities . It is a great way to instill initiative and social consciousness in all who participate.
- The Green Deal - Cynthia Chen
- Apathy towards the environment increases as today’s society is focused elsewhere, but the Green Deal works to reverse this trend. By tying in FDR’s New Deal to common conservation efforts, a past tragedy to a present one, I hope to increase environmental concern in teens. This
program is an ongoing set of actions taking place through high school
extracurriculars that are tied together by an community-wide, annual
environmental-awareness event. - 3 Steps To a Better Planet - Courtney Morey
- Our world is suffering because of our unresponisble acts. We continue to destory it while living in our own little fairy-tale that nothing will happen. My project has 3 easy steps that we can take to help protect our planet.
- Recycling - Hieu Tran
- My project is about recycling which is the third R of the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
- Peru and China Two Countries, Two Paths - Michael Silverman
- I recently took trips to China and Peru, two very different countries in terms of culture but also
in terms of sustainable development. I believe that this slide show illustrates sustainable development practices that should be reproduced here in addition to unsustainable practices which we should avoid at all costs. - The Environment and Future Generations - Jessika Sprunger
- I want to start a Program that would involve all grades (K-12). This program would involve not just learning about the environment, but interacting and protecting the environment! I have already started this process.
- Promoting Ecological Awareness and Sustainability in Children - Katerine Dumais
- Many children, especially those in low income populations, are not exposed to sustainability. Building a native demonstration garden, or kitchen garden, is a simple way to promote ecological awareness in children. The attachment includes a manual that was created to accompany such a demonstration landscape, and shows children that participation in such an activity helps other species, and the planet.
- Global Warming: The Time Is Now - Joia Carter
- My solution to Global Warming is to reduce the annihilation of the rainforest and other natural vegetation. Another solution that could reduce global warming is utilizing the popular technique of car pooling
to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. Education is also an essential concept to
understanding the cause, effect, and prevention of global warming. - Protecting Our Wildlife: Sustainable Traditional Chinese Medicine - Shannon McCook
- Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a deeply-rooted and clinically efficacious practice that poses threat to our many wild plants and animals. In order to save the endangered species used in TCM, we must bridge the gaps betwe
- Global Warming: The Energy Alternative Solution - Nathan Yencho
- I am reporting on a new solution to provide a cleaner energy source. The Pelamis Wave Energy Converter utilizes the power of the waves to generate electricity. This provides a better source of energy because it is entirely eco-friendly, unlike coal plants
