This weekend I had lunch at the Farmer's Diner in Quechee Village, Vermont. I heard about them when they catered a staff lunch here at SCA a few weeks ago. The diner's mission is to create great food using local ingredients whenever possible and to "increase the economic vitality of local agrarian communities."
They've been in Quechee under a year but according to the owner, are doing great business and can hardly keep up with the busloads of tourists who travel through the area year-round.
My visit to the diner was great. The hostess told us that just over 60% of our lunch bill would return to local farms. The food was delicious and the menu had tons of variety. There were plenty of healthy and veggie options in addition to some heart-stopping traditional greasy-spoon diner favorites. They serve breakfast all day every day (a plus in my book) and are open 7 days a week, 6:30am-7:30pm.
If you're in the area, I highly recommend checking them out. Their website is here: http://www.farmersdiner.com

Thanks for promoting the Eat Local Challenge! Just a clarification to the post above, there are a number of Localvore grassroots groups throughout Vermont and New Hampshire, each of which organize their own challenges in the summer of 2006 and this winter of 2007. The Mad River Valley Localvore Project (www.vermontlocalvore.org) is but one of these local groups, but we welcome participation in the Challenge from folks outside our geographic region. From an informal survey of the various VT/NH groups it appeared that over 1000 people participated in summer challenges at some level, and while not all of the groups have sponsored an official Winter Challenge, the response has been great to ours in the MRV! For links to many of the localvore groups, visit: http://www.uvlocalvore.com/links.html.
