SCA and Pick Up America - Oakland Day of Service

Friday, October 19, 2012 - 11:30am
East Bay Regional Parks
Oakland, CA

Please join SCA and Pick Up America for a service project in Oakland prior to the San Francisco Outdoor Nation Summit. We’re partnering with East Bay Regional Parks to pick up trash and remove invasive species at the MLK Jr. Regional Shoreline.

In addition to our service project, volunteers may also participate in Art for the Sky to make a “giant living painting made of people.” Art for the Sky is an adventure in team-building and perception to deepen our relationship to sky, earth and one another. Come be a part of our picture!

Pick Up America is the vision of SCA alum Jeff Chen. It’s the nation’s first coast-to-coast roadside litter pick-up. This youth-inspired initiative encourages environmental stewardship and zero-waste through art, education, and community outreach.

They started on a tour across the country in 2010 at the Atlantic coast. With the help of friends, strangers who become friends, and some good luck, their team of four professional volunteers pick up trash across this beautiful nation. Along the way, they co-host community events, hangout with the locals, play music and make art. It’s pretty much the coolest road-trip ever. SCA is excited to partner with Pick Up America as they make their way to the Pacific Ocean.
