The participant will work out of the Resources Management office at Catoctin Mountain Park and will work with two Biologists and a Resources Manager. A combination of field and office work can be expected. Hiking boots are required. Work will be conducted Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. The park is situated between Thurmont and Smithsburg (both within 6-7 miles), Maryland. Amenities include restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, banks, and ice cream shops in those towns. The larger city of Hagerstown (population 38,000) is approximately 14 miles to the west
The participant will complete a green house gas (GHG) inventory for Catoctin Mountain Park. This information will be used to determine if the Park is meeting goals set in the Climate Friendly Parks Action Plan, which is a description of the actions—policies, programs, and measures—the park will take to reduce its GHG emissions. The participant will collaborate with Park staff, regional staff, and national experts to complete the inventory provide a list of funding sources that could be used to update equipment as suggested in the Climate Friendly Parks Action Plan. The participant will provide education and outreach to Park staff and the public by creating posters and presentations.
