Community Service Opportunities - Winter/Spring 2011

SCA COMMUNITY SERVICE 2011


Meet new people, work outside, and earn your volunteer service hours. The SCA has lots of 2011 volunteer opportunities, and participants receive priority placement for paid DC Summer Commuting Conservation Crews.

Spring Service Projects 2011:

(Receive 8 hrs of community service for each of these days).

  • April 23rd – Earth Day
    • Location: Activity Center at Ft Dupont National Park, SE DC [map] [website]
    • Time: 8:30am-1:30pm
    • Projects: Trail Maintenance, Community Garden Preparation, and Invasive Species Removal.
    • Other: lunch will be provided. please wear long pants with sturdy boots and bring a water bottle.

Mayor Kicks Off Summer Youth Employment Program

(PITTSBURGH) July 27, 2009 Mayor Luke Ravenstahl kicked-off his Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program (PSYEP), welcoming youths to the City/County Building Portico, and touring several PSYEP sites. Since bringing the program back in 2006, the Mayor has improved upon it with the help of President Obama's economic stimulus funding, doubling the amount of youths hired to 554, and adding "white-collar" internships.
