Jenny Martin was born and raised in the western United States. She grew up camping and backpacking in California, Arizona and Washington state.  This gave her a passion for conservation and the great outdoors. Jenny lead a High School Crew-creating a new hiking trail in the Big South Fork NRA in Tennessee.  Then she worked on a wilderness trail crew in the Chiracahua National Forrest doing erosion control and fire rehabilitation.  Jenny went on to an internship as an interpretive ranger at Chaco Culture National Historic Park. With her SCA experience and training, she got a job as an assistant trail crew leader in Maine working with the Maine Appalachian Trail Club.  Jenny went on to get her BA at Western Washington University, and her Masters at University of Massachusetts- both in Social Justice Education.  After working in education, Jenny has joined the SCA.  She has always wanted to work for the SCA,  to follow her passion for connecting students and young people to work experiences that build thoughtful relationships with people, the land, ecosystems, and a positive and hopeful future. Jenny loves to travel, juggle, hike, play and work outside, and encourage hope in people.

Last stop at the Top!

I arrived at my last stop, Gunnison,CO and Colorado Mountain College, to find this amazing view at my lodging.  Here at 10,500 feet, the air is crisp, clean, and cold. And I found myself walking at a slower pace than I had ever walked before. The campus was just as breathtaking

I found a dedicated Colorado Mountain College faculty and staff on Friday.  The Natural Resource Management faculty were hard at work, and still were eager to get SCA internship information for the students. Many students were in the field on friday. This school does alot  of learning through doing, and that meant huge student interest in our Conservation Internships at my info table in the student center. It was a beautiful last stop on my First Fall Trip, thanks to all at CMC!

Stay tuned for  Fall Trip 2: Arizona and New Mexico

Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak!

I spent the weekend in Colorado Springs and thought I'd go and bag my first 14'ner. That's 14,000 foot mountain, in climber lingo (just learned that on this trip :). So, I climbed that mountain!  Here I am at the top

Course I got there by taking the train.  But next time, I will climb it! Or at least hike down from the top.  It was fantastic up there-we even had a mini snowstorm!

I got a great information table at Colorado College the next day.  The faculty and students showed big interest in our Internships. The students were very active and playful, so I promised to play the following mystery picture game-You can play too! Of course it's easier if you know the Colorado College campus.   The first person to guess where this mystery bathroom is located on campus will win a truly fabulous prize (yes I will mail you your prize!)  Send your guesses by responding to my blog!  Here's the picture:

Can't wait to hear from you!

Up to University of Colorado-Boulder

I left Fort Collins in a flash-heading for Boulder, the University of Colorado-hoping to catch the ICE (Investigate Careers in the Environment) Club meeting. :( sad face, I just missed it, rolling into town at 6:00 pm.  Despite that rough start, I went on to have so many great meetings with students that I lost count! Y'all know who you are!  I met most of these candidates at the huge Norlin library on campus.Sample Image  Here's one of the UC-Boulder SCA intern cadidates, on the steps of the huge house of books:

Dynamic professor Doug Bamforth gave me a great welcome when I came to speak with his classes.  I got to meet with a group of Geography and Environmental Science people who were ready to get started on their intern applications, and we had a great session!

But before I could go and hike those beautiful foothill trails, I had to leave-off to Denver!

Colorado State was a great beginning!

It was my first fall trip, and Colorado State did not dissapoint!  From the thoughtful and helpful Career Services personell (Thanks to Barbara Diehl and Brett Beal!!), to the students I met, and the faculty sharing their time and dedication to the SCA, and to the fabulous people plaza outside of the Student Union (the Mariachi Band!)

The career fair table was a great success, thanks to Lauren and Angela! These SCA Alumni and Colorado state students talked to endless flows of students about our internships-y'all are terrific!Sample ImageSample ImageSample Image
