SCA at the DC Green Festival 2008!

On November 8-9, SCA participated in Washington, DC’s Green Festival for the fourth time. Green Festival is the world’s largest green living consumer show! In its fifth year in Washington, DC, more than 35,000 people attended the festival and many of them came to SCA’s booth to learn about us.
 The Green Festival offered more than 125 speakers, 350 green businesses, workshops, a Fair Trade pavilion, organic beers and food, and live music. Festival goers had the opportunity to learn more about DC environmental initiatives, including SCA!
This year, SCA expanded its presence in the festival. We had our standard information booth, but we were also in the Green Teen Pavilion with a composting demonstration AND in the Community Focus Pavilion with SCA’s InJeopardy game.
InJeopardy is like the television version, but with questions on carbon
footprint, National Parks, and other environmental topics. However,
InJeopardy is unique because it is partially powered by bicycle! The
contestant rides the bike to create energy for the  screens to operate
while answering a question.
At the end of the day, the bike used for the game was auctioned off by
Phoenix Bikes, our local bike store. It was a huge success and a crowd
pleaser!
Without the help of our SCA alum volunteers, we couldn’t have done it!
We had around 15 alum come and share their experiences with Festival
attendees and help spread the word about SCA.
It was our best Green Festival yet and we’re looking forward to next year’s!

DC: Conservation Leadership Corps Application

SCA' s Conservation Leadership Corps (CLC) is a leadership development and service learning program for high school students year round. The CLC brings together diverse students for particpation in meaninful and fun outdoor programs during the school year and the summer.

SCA to Celebrate National Public Lands Day at Prince William Forest Park!
|

|
Time to lace up your boots and grab some tools for the 15th annual National Public Lands Day! On Saturday, September 27, SCA will be partnering with National Park Service, the Nationall Environmental Education Foundation and Toyota to offer hands-on stewardship at one of our nearby national parks.
In addition to participating in National Public Lands Day, we will also be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Civilian Conservation Corps and the rest of President Teddy Roosevelt’s New Deal Program! Projects in Prince William Forest Park will concentrate on original CCC projects throughout the park, including cabin repair, trail restoration, tree planting, and more.
