An interactive journal for SCA Alumni and Friends, August 2008
Conservation happens right where you live. It’s not just an ideal in a remote location. Whether you live in the beautiful expanses near Yellowstone or in downtown Houston, the need to connect with the land and our communities is essential. SCA addresses this vital link in our community-based Conservation Leadership Corps (CLC) programs. Find out more in this issue. As always, we welcome your feedback. Brittany Williams, a crew member at the Jacksonville, FL, Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, gave an inspired reading of her poem at the crew’s recent graduation ceremony. This poem was originally an entry in the weekly journal that each crew member was asked to keep during their month-long service. Summer Vacation Poll Results
|
Last month we asked where you were planning to spend your summer vacation.
Almost 74% of you responded that you'd be spending more of your vacation outdoors than inside.
Over 89% are going to someplace wild or natural, while only a little over 5% were going to urban/cosmopolitan areas and another 5% to historical/cultural destinations. None of our respondents were going "to the farm" (rural/agricultural) this summer.
We're also happy to report that a number of you said you'd be willing to write about your trip for a future issue of Hands On. We'll be contacting you. Readers - get ready for some great stories! |
