An interactive journal for SCA Alumni and Friends, August 2008

Conservation happens right where you live. It’s not just an ideal in a remote location. Whether you live in the beautiful expanses near Yellowstone or in downtown Houston, the need to connect with the land and our communities is essential. SCA addresses this vital link in our community-based Conservation Leadership Corps (CLC) programs. Find out more in this issue. As always, we welcome your feedback. Diana Lopez is a good example of SCA’s mission in action -- the Houston native has spent the past two school years working year-round with SCA’s Conservation Leadership Corps (CLC) and her summers on national crews.

Conservation Begins at Home

happygirl_web.jpgSometimes conservation, like charity, begins at home. SCA’s community crews work to conserve and improve their own neighborhood parks and green spaces. They learn that conservation is not just something that happens far away in remote national parks. They learn how vital it is right in their own backyards and their own lives. And they gain a lifelong connection to the land and their communities. Your gift to SCA today helps continue and expand these important programs across the country.
