American Eagle and SCA "Reclaim the Outdoors" in Seattle

LOCATION: Deadhorse Canyon, Lakeridge Park, Seattle, WA
DATE & TIME: Saturday, October 16, 10am-2pm

EVENT RECAP: With a backdrop of sun and blue sky, nearly fifty volunteers (from SCA's school year program, Friends of Deadhorse Canyon and REI) spent the day planting 441 individually potted plants on a steep slope previously cleared and prepared by the SCA summer crew. In addition, the volunteers cleared invasive blackberry and bindweed from the hill (which measured approx 5,000 sq ft). After planting, the volunteers placed mulch around the plants on the hillside.

Transportation, a lunch of Vietnamese sandwiches, vests for girls and henleys for boys were all provided by American Eagle Outfitters.

PROJECTS COMPLETED:

  • Planting of 441 native plants
  • Removal of 5,000 sq ft. of invasives
  • Mulching newly planted natives
