White River, Mt. Rainier National Park, is about 36 miles east of the town of Enumclaw, WA.

Your responsibilities will include: assisting wilderness rangers in patrolling over 100 miles of trails with an emphasis in the Glacier Basin area (this site, a subalpine  trailside camp along the main climbing route on the east side of the mountain, has experienced significant impacts relating to vegetation, wildlife, human waste, sanitation, etc.  In particular, wildlife habituation has occurred here, with bears and other animals gaining access to food because of improper storage techniques), contacting visitors and disseminating the Leave No Trace message, (50%); working in a wilderness information office orienting visitors to park resources, (30%); performing minor trail maintenance work (delineation, brushing and treadwork), (10%); assisting ranger in impact monitoring of campsites and cross-country zones, utilizing compass, GPS and digital photography, (10%). You may assist in search and rescue operations (member of carry-out team ground searcher) as needed and, if qualified, may assist in wildland firefighting. EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Opportunity to take training with other work divisions, i.e. Interpretation.
