Backcountry Intern

Located in the high desert of the Colorado Plateau, The Maze District of Canyonlands National Park is one of the most remote duty stations in the National Park Service (in the Continental United States). This area is a remote wilderness consisting of rugged canyons with outstanding examples of prehistoric rock art and archeological sites. This is a unique opportunity to intern in the heart of Utah's backcountry.

You will patrol the backcountry by foot and 4WD (sometimes for multiple days}, staff the backcountry information station, conduct guided interpretive walks in Horseshoe Canyon, work with the district’s recycling program, and maintain fire fighting equipment. This position is not eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award.
