Glennallen, Alaska is a small, remote community on Alaska's road system. It is located approximately 180 miles from Anchorage, Alaska, the nearest major city. The are very few shopping opportunities or entertainment venues available. The area is boreal forest, surrounded by the rugged mountains of the Chugach, Talkeetna, Wrangell and Alaska Ranges. Weather and climate are variable during the summer with rain, snow and sun possible on the same day. Temperatures can vary between freezing and the upper 80's. Mosquitos and other biting insects can be present anytime.
Intern will assist permanent and seasonal BLM staff in conducting cultural resource management tasks, including archaeological surveys, site recording, mapping grade GPS recording, and site protection efforts. Fieldwork will be conducted throughout the Glennallen Field Office's limits in South-Central Alaska. Work will be conducted in remote and rugged areas, and aircraft, boats, ATVs and highway vehicles will be used for access.BLM housing consists of 3 four bedroom modular homes, each with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, washer, dryer, a shared kitchen and living room.
