I grew up in the suburbs of Boston playing in my backyard.  When I was in high school my dad suggested I apply to be on an SCA high school crew, because he is an alumni and really enjoyed his numerous summers working with SCA all over the country.  I spent the summer of 1999 in Mount Rainier National Park working on the Wonderland trail where I fell in love with geology.  In the summer of 2000 I worked in Glacier National Park right before my freshman year at Bates College in Lewiston, ME where I became a geology major.  My undergraduate research focused on geochemistry in lakes in the Canadian Arctic.  After Bates, I moved to Tucson to get my master's at the University of Arizona where I studied varying weathering regimes in Lake Tanganyika (Tanzania).  Now, I live in Houston and work for ExxonMobil as a geologist.  I still try to spend as much time outdoors and Iʼm always looking into ways to increase recycling and sustainability awareness.  My sister Mary was a crew leader in the Natchez Parkway this past summer and she led a crew in the Delaware Water Gap the year before that.  I'm looking forward to contributing to the Alumni Editorial Board!

I was born and raised just north of Atlanta, Georgia. Summers and holidays were spent in Salt Lake City and Provo Canyon, Utah. Growing up hiking in the Appalachian Mountains and throughout Utah’s mountains and deserts taught me an appreciation for the natural beauty of the Earth. Since an early age, conservation service projects have been an important part of my life. I attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Georgia State University in December 2008 with a major in journalism and a minor in German. After interning at El Morro National Monument in Ramah, New Mexico in the summer of 2007, I changed her plans to be a newspaper writer to being a National Park ranger. My SCA internship allowed me to discover a job where I could apply my passions- research, writing, photography, as well as my ability to speak German- to a career that I love! I attended the 2008 EarthVision Summit, where I met amazing people and learned about new ways to practice conservation. Because my SCA experience has changed my life in such a positive way, I want to do my part to help others have similar experiences.

I have worked in the fields of Parks, Recreation and the Environment ever since my days with the City of Coconut Creek, FL maintaining city parks during high school. I went to the University of Florida in Gainesville to earn a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and Natural Resource Ethics. Along with taking classes, I worked full-time for the City of Gainesville managing recreation centers and city parks. In 2005, I was awarded the Unilever Environmental Policy Internship through SCA and worked a summer at Channel Islands National Park. Then in the fall, I went on to do some environmental policy work on Capitol Hill. While I fell in love with the DC work and lifestyle, this true Florida Gator went back to my alma mater to get my Masters in Ecology at UF.  Educating teens about the environment and how they can help make a change in the world are values I picked up while working with SCA. In my free time, I like to hike, bike, ski and kayak.
