Commencement 2008

SCA members, alumni, and friends gathered in Charlestown for the 2008 Conservation Commencement, featuring guest speaker and environmental activist Gloria Flora, and 2008 alumnus Rick Richards.

Gloria Flora - Keynote

Gloria Flora This year's Conservation Commencement address at SCA's national headquarters in Charlestown, NH was delivered by environmental hero and former U.S. Forest Service Supervisor Gloria Flora. She gave all SCA members who participated in a program in 2008 a conservation charge: "You are the new leaders, coming into your own to replace those confused or missing in action. Rick Richards - 2008 Alumnus

Rick Richards Rick Richards brought the audience spontaneously to its feet when he delivered his remarks. A few words into his speech, you knew this was going to be a meaningful, maybe even life-changing talk - Watch Rick's Speech.

Rick was born in Philadelphia; later his family moved to the Piedmont region of North Carolina. He has a B.A. in English Lit (and it shows). He was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship in Austria, and on his return, cultivated a passion for the outdoors, community and environmental awareness. He joined SCA through the Mass Parks AmeriCorps program and is now working on a documentary film.
