The 2008 SCA summer season has officially come to a close in Stamford! This year the program provided nearly 40 Stamford area teenagers with an opportunity to earn money during the summer while making a difference in their community and the environment. The students worked for six weeks through the heat, humidity, and rain of summertime to complete a variety of environmental restoration and conservation projects in their community. They built bridges, dug irrigation ditches, constructed rock staircases, removed miles of Japanese Knotweed, and even built brand new hiking trails all here in the city’s’ parks and green spaces. In addition to all of their hard work the crews also participated in weekly environmental education field trips and a culminating four day, three night recreational camping trip at various locations throughout the northeast. Overall our second season in Stamford was a great success! We were lucky to once again work with the city of Stamford and the Mill River Collaborative while also expanding our partnerships this year to work with the Bartlett Arboretum and the Stamford Museum and Nature Center.
We would once again like to thank all of our community partners who made this summer such a success! We can’t wait to do it again next year!
