The Student Conservation Association (SCA), the nation’s leading conservation service organization for young people, has an exciting opportunity working at the Idaho AmeriCorps Forest Training Center located in the Salmon Challis National Forest in Central Idaho. SCA is seeking a Program Manager to oversee all operational and administrative aspects of a 6 month, 18 member AmeriCorps Residential Program.
The aim of the program is to create the next generation of outdoor leaders by providing a broad experience in community outreach, environmental stewardship, leadership development, and service learning. Projects may include such disciplines as trail construction, fire prevention, native plant propagation, and ecological restoration.
Responsibilities Include:
- Program development and implementation
- Hiring, training and supervision of staff
- Corps member selection, evaluation, reporting
- Risk assessment and management
- Budget management and logistical coordination
- Provide support and overseeing members and staff on outreach projects, environmental education, equipment management, intern management, incident response, conflict resolution, and agency relations.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Environmental Education/Science/related field and 3 years minimum of related field experience
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in an outdoor/conservation service program
- Community organizing skills, strong capacity to work in a team
- Proven supervisory, organizational, and program development skills
- Self starter, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including effective computer and internet skills
- Experience with service-learning methodologies preferred
- 2 years proven backcountry leadership experience
- Current Wilderness First Responder/ CPR required
- Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards required
- Ability to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards
The Idaho AmeriCorps Forest Training Center is a residential program. The program manager is required to live onsite with members and staff. Site location is approximately 40 miles northwest of Salmon, ID in the Salmon Challis National Forest.
