Washington State Senate Honors SCA Print

The Washington State Senate recently paid tribute to the SCA for its fifty year legacy of accomplishments in the state of Washington and nationwide to help restore and maintain America's natural beauty.  The Senate officially acknowledged SCA's contribution through its passage of Senate Resolution 8644.

SCA staff in the Northwest regional office in Seattle traveled to the Capitol in Olympia on March 5th to join SCA Board member Clydia Cuykendall to receive the honor.  The resolution was read aloud, each staff member was acknowledged individually, and SCA received a resounding standing ovation.

The resolution commends SCA for its work in the field of conservation, highlighting in particular its legacy in the wild lands of Washington.  This year marks the golden anniversary of SCA’s very first conservation crew, which arrived in Washington’s own Olympic National Park fifty years ago.  Since then, the resolution notes, more than 4,000 SCA volunteers have provided more than 1.5 million hours of service to the state’s natural ecosystems, forests, and wildlife reserves.  The Senate also praised SCA’s current leadership of the Mount Rainier Recovery program in response to the flooding of 2006.
