Taking Leadership to a Whole New Level

What do you do when you’re a high school senior hooked on the SCA? You become a Crew Leader Apprentice! This year, the Conservation Leadership Corps (CLC) is piloting a new Apprentice Crew Leader program in Seattle, Oakland, Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. In each region, two returning CLC members have been selected into the program because of their demonstrated leadership skills, experience, and commitment to the SCA. As part of their training, apprentices earn their Wilderness First Aid certification.

Then, under the mentorship of SCA adult professional crew leaders, they will help lead the crews of first year participants. Seattle’s crew leader apprentices this year are Aisha Pasha and Noel Sherrard. Both bring a wealth of SCA experience to their new role.

Aisha began volunteering with the SCA in the summer of 2003 and is continuing to volunteer through her senior year at Cleveland High School. Aisha is currently a Running Start student, taking classes through Seattle Central Community College. She has participated on two SCA crews at Mt. Rainier National Park and was awarded a travel scholarship to join an SCA alumni conservation crew in the White Mountains of Alaska last summer. When not with the SCA, you can find her figure drawing, sculpting and studying languages.

Like Aisha, Noel has completed two SCA conservation crews on Mt. Rainier. He is also a Running Start student at Seattle Central Community College, where he has continued to pursue his interests in both acting and activism. Both Noel and Aisha look forward to sharing their experiences and skills with this year’s new CLC participants.
