Old Faithfuls get dirty for Fall

“Old Faithfuls,” CLC year two and three members who adopted their nickname in honor of Yellowstone National Park’s famous geyser, returned from summer conservation crews jazzed up about SCA, ready to get dirty again and put their experience to the test . Bi-weekly meetings began in October, when Old Faithfuls embarked on their journey toward excellence in leadership. Using the Points of Light Youth Leadership curriculum, they learned about effective leadership styles. Together, the helped plan an advanced conservation service project, which took place at the beginning of November at Seattle City’s Seward Park. During the cool Fall service day, eight Old Faithfuls and four crew leaders installed five stairs, restored two drainage dips and water bars, brushed 500 feet of trail and removed huge piles of invasive ivy. Jacobo Jimenez, SCA’s agency contact with Seattle City Parks and recreation, said “These kids really know what they’re doing. It’s great to have an experienced group out here go right to work and be so excited about trails.”
