As an important partner with SCA, you are critical to the success of our conservation-in-action mission. We are grateful that you've chosen to work with SCA and will do everything we can to support you and your intern. This manual offers advice and information which will help you make selections, understand communication between you, SCA and selected interns, and generally promote a successful internship. Whether you are new to SCA and supervising an intern for the first time, or you've been with us for years, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with all forms, schedules and policies. Please refer to this information before and after your intern arrives. As always, we are here to help you with any issues or concerns that may arise while you supervise the intern; the map below will tell you how to reach your SCA contact.

SCA is currently receiving and processing applications for Conservation Intern positions. We begin sending applications for your review according to the following schedule:

Position starting date: Applications sent between:
October 1 - October 31 July 15 - August 1
November 1 - December 31 September 15 - October 1
January 1 - February 28 November 15 - December 1
March 1 - April 30 January 15 - February 1
May 1 - June 30 February 15 - March 1
July 1 - July 31 March 15 - April 1
August 1 - September 30 June 15 - July 1

It is important that you review the applications and make your selections within a week from the time you receive them. If circumstances arise that prevent you from contacting candidates within one week of receiving their applications, please call us at 603-543-1700 x 498. Delay in making selections may impact your ability to interview the most qualified candidate for your position. After an applicant has accepted your position, please inform us of your selection by calling your Program Representative. The map below indicates which representative you should call. When you have notified us of your selection, we will contact the intern with directions about how to complete their selection paperwork. This paperwork includes:

  • Confirmation of Selection Acceptance
  • Medical Form
  • Release Form
  • Travel Grant Request Form
  • Information regarding AmeriCorps education awards from the Corporation for National Service

The intern will also be directed to our Intern Manual, containing information about our Travel Grant policy and procedures, accident insurance, general information about SCA, advisories on workplace discrimination and sexual harassment, safety and how to get the most from their internship.

Please review the travel grant policy in case you need to advise your intern about the best way to get to your area. Before we can authorize an individual to travel to your site or send any funds, we must receive a completed Travel Grant Request, Medical Form, Release Form, and Confirmation of Acceptance.

Prompt selection of an applicant and notification to SCA will allow time for selected interns to complete these administrative requirements and help assure a smooth start in their position.

A copy of the Confirmation of Acceptance from each of your interns will be attached to the Interns profile in MAX, along with the Emergency Contact Information and Participant Agreement. Please print and file the Confirmation of Acceptance along with the Emergency Contact Procedures Procedure memo page where they will be readily accessible for you.

In the rare event that an intern's behavior requires disciplinary action or dismissal, you must contact SCA prior to taking action.

You will be asked to complete an evaluation at the close of the position. It may be helpful to keep these questions in mind as you proceed with your position.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions at all, please contact us at (603) 543-1700. Friendly and competent staff are ready to assist you!
