Be part of the sustainable management of natural resources!
- Resource Management Internships are great positions for anyone looking to gain experience in field work. Not only will you have the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom, but you will also make important professional contacts in the field.
- In 2007 there were over 100 SCA Resource Management internships located in over 30 states in all regions of the country and worked with state, federal, and private agencies, including the National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and The Nature Conservancy.
Your formal training will vary depending on your responsibilities, but may include a park orientation; radio use; GPS/GIS use; topographic map reading; first aid/CPR; defensive driving; exotic plant identification and removal techniques; songbird banding; interpretation techniques; or S-130 Firefighting Training. On-the-job training will also be provided, including mentoring and coaching that take place throughout your internship.
- Sites are typically looking for interns with an academic background in biological or natural sciences; good observation skills; the ability to take accurate and complete field notes; and the physical ability to spend long hours outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
